I've started uni - fine art at Central Saint Martins and I'm pretty happy right now....
I'm going back to the figure and back to painting - it still interests me, I have a lot to learn...so why not. Nearly every artist I love does figurative work.
So, I'm working on a project that is about being ill. I'm trying to convey the feelings that I (and you may) have when being ill.... contempt, frustration, constriction, fatigue, pain etc....
I'm just starting to dig into grounds and supports....just learn to stretch canvas so that is exciting- learning exactly how to get the results you want. I'm really trying to become a better painter, to think more about how I paint, how I use the paint, how the paint can express what it is I want to communicate. In a way its learning to manipulate the paint as best I can so that the visual image can have greater affect on the viewer. I'm also, in a similiar way looking at colour- what colours I use, how I use them within the piece and also mixing colours....
there is a lot out there to learn.
I'm fascinated by the light in hospitals. Although I'm not trying to paint people in hospitals or people that are ill. I'm trying to get my audience to understand that feeling of being ill. To make them feel a bit uncomfortable would be an achievement.
so.. the work begins. I'm going to make a full-body painting soon. space is starting to play a big part in this project.
